The Story

From family sidelines to fight cards

Ernest Butler picked up a camera to shoot his niece and nephew playing sports — no formal training, just a good eye and a front-row seat. He posted the shots online, and other parents took notice.

What started as favors for friends turned into real bookings. He taught himself the camera, then the craft, and went from hobbyist to full-time photographer shooting sports and portraits across the Bay Area.

Today his boxing work has run in The Stockton Record, and he's shot up-and-coming Bay Area fighters including Julian Bridges.
